Take foodstuff that will easily fit in plastic containers or bags. For instance, you can take a single slice of bread and spread some peanut butter and jelly. Fold or cut the sandwich in half and wrap in aluminium foil.

You can also fill a small plastic container with favourites like macaroni and cheese, scrambled eggs, or a green salad. Avoid saucy dishes as spills can be hard to clean up on the go. Finger foods of all sorts make an ideal snack on the plane or while driving. Some great examples are carrots, almonds, grapes, and apple wedges. Remember not to squeeze out the air from the plastic container because this will provide a cushion for the items you have packed.

Make a trail mix as an alternative snacking option, too. For a nutritious version, toss in half a cup of walnuts, raw almonds, raw pumpkin seeds, shelled and unsalted sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, and coarsely chopped dried papaya in a bowl. Mix all the ingredients together and transfer to a zip-lock bag.

Aside from bottled water, healthy beverage options can include all-natural fruit juice in boxes and diet soda. Keep liquids cool for prolonged periods by storing them inside an ice pack. Freeze the latter the night before your departure. To satisfy the sweet tooth, slip a granola bar or two as well as a few fun-sized candy bars.
