But that&#8217;s half the amusement of it: learning other people&#8217;s take on the same thing. It&#8217;s no different with boxing. Every boxing admirer has a Top 5 list and stoutly defends it. There are a few boxing champions that everybody accepts should be in the Top 5, but where they fall within that list is the subject of discussion. So, based on several sources, here are the Five Greatest Boxing Champions of All Time.</p>
<p>1. Sugar Ray Robinson, Middleweight, 1940-1965. This was near universal, although a couple of people put Ali here for more emotional motives. Ali himself, anyway, who was known for calling himself &#8220;The Greatest,&#8221; has said that Robinson (born Walker Smith, Jr.) was in reality the greatest boxer of all time. Concurring are boxing champions Sugar Ray Leonard and Joe Louis, the Associated Press, ESPN, and The Ring magazine. Robinson lived from 1921 to 1989. After retiring from boxing, he was diagnosed with diabetes and ultimately with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease and deceased in 1989. The U.S. Postal Service featured Robinson in a commemorative stamp in 2006.</p>
<p>2. Muhammad Ali, Heavyweight, 1960-1981. What more can be said about Muhammad Ali? He was a 1960 Olympic gold medalist and the title of numerous books and flicks. Despite being stripped of his Heavyweight championship for his opposition to the Vietnam War (he was a draftee), he remains one of the most admired American public figures ever. Ali&#8217;s conviction on draft avoidance was unanimously overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1971. Named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated in 1999, and Sports Personality of the Century by the BBC, Ali still makes casual public appearances despite being disabled by Parkinson&#8217;s syndrome.</p>
<p>3. Henry Armstrong, Lightweight, Welterweight, 1932-1945. Born Henry Melody Jackson, Jr. to a sharecropper and an Iriquois Native American, Armstrong won boxing championships in the Lightweight, Welterweight, and Featherweight partitions. Armstrong&#8217;s true record isn&#8217;t certainly clear, because he also fought under the sobriquet Melody Jackson, but as Henry Armstrong, he was the sole boxer to hold three world championships at the same time.</p>
<p>4. Joe Louis, Heavyweight, 1934-1951. Louis&#8217;s real name was Joseph Louis Barrow, and he lived from 1914 to 1981. Louis&#8217; nickname was the Brown Bomber, and he had renown as a sincere boxer when the sport was controlled by gambling benefits. The International Boxing Research Organization named Louis as the greatest heavyweight ever, and he was also ranked #1 by The Ring Magazine in its list of 100 Greatest Punchers of All Time. Others listed in the number 4 spot contain Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, and Rocky Marciano.</p>
<p>5. Willie Pep, Featherweight, 1940-1966. Willie Pep&#8217;s real name was Guglielmo Papaleo, and he lived from 1922 to 2006. His last record was 230-11-1, with 65 KOs. Pep was inducted into the Worldwide Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. Other names referred in this spot include George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Archie Moore.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If there is a fish that is close to the heart of Central Thailand&#8217;s culinary custom it is probably the pla thu, a kind of mackerel that goes ideally with nam phrik kapi, the kind of chili dip sauce. But there are very many types of pla thu, including breeds found off the China seashore and in Indonesian.</p>
<p>The one that Thais like best, and which settles the Gulf of Thailand, is not particularly big and is remarkable for its oily meat and its delicious aroma and flavor.</p>
<p>Its life cycle entangles a certain amount of traveling. The mother lays her eggs in southern Thai sea waters where there are stony reefs to take care of them. When they hatch, the small fry gradually make their way to the Gulf of Thailand, and the closer they get to the area of the gulf that they are looking for, with its oozy bottom, the more food they discover. It abounds in the muddy-bottomed sea off of Samut Songkhram and Phetchaburi, where the fish grow to full size and their meat reaches highest quality. It is in these places that the best and yummy pla thu are caught.</p>
<p>The pla thu fish that aren&#8217;t caught by fishermen return to the South to breed and the cycle is repeated. Since the entire life cycle takes place in Thai sea waters, this breed of pla thu is considered to be a Thai fish.</p>
<p>It is one fish that is consumed by Thais in every part of the country. People who live near rivers prefer to eat freshwater fish and distaste sea fish because of their odor. But they make an exception for the pla thu and concede that it is delicious.</p>
<p>Thirty years ago a candidate seeking election in Isan bought votes by handing out dried and salted pla thu to villagers. He won, and the price he paid was cheap because he only had to give a few pla thu fish to each household.</p>
<p>When visiting companions in Laos, the most welcomed gift to carry along is a few of these same dried, salted pla thu, or possibly some mussels preserved the same way.</p>
<p>This breed of mackerel is a kind of &#8220;miracle fish&#8221; that can be used to cook almost 100 dishes that range from the extremely simple to complex recipes that are complex to prepare. The fish used can be fresh, steamed or dried and salted. Even the entrails are important ingredients for food. In the South of Thailand they are mixed with salt and fermented for a couple of days. Then the liquid is used to make kaeng tai pla, the most pleasurable dish of southern Thai curries.</p>
<p>In the Central Region the pla thu innards are fermented in the same way, then consumed with minced lemon grass, shallots and chillies sprinkled on top.</p>
<p>Fresh pla thu can be cooked in numerous of ways. About 30 years ago people in the Phetchaburi area would ferment the fresh fish with salt for about eight months and then strain the result to get just the liquid, which was used as a distinguished nam pla. If this version of nam pla is no more available, it is only because pla thu has risen so abruptly in price.</p>
<p>In the Amphawa district of Samut Songkhram province , locals envelop the fish in banana leaves and grill them in a coconut husk fire. The smoke scents the fish, which are then eaten with nam pla Mon, a sauce made by mixing nam pla with sugar, lime juice, krachai (an aromatic root), chillies and ginger. This is a plaindish exclusive to the farmers of Amphawa, as the nam pla Mon is a speciality of theirs.</p>
<p>Pla thu tom khem is another tasty pla thu dish. To make it, a salty broth must first be made from nam pla, sugar and tamarind juice, then sticks of sugar cane are placed on the bottom of the pot. Cleaned fresh pla thu are then added and cooked gradually over a low fire for many hours. The longer they boil, the more the fish will be flavoured by the broth as the meat becomes firmer and the bones become so soft they almost dissolve.</p>
<p>This dish is flavorful as is, but to make it even more delicious chop some shallots and bird chillies and sprinkle them over the fish, then serve with hot rice. It&#8217;s all you need for a great meal.</p>
<p>Fresh pla thu can also be cooked chuchee-style. Chuchee dishes using fish are made by frying curry seasonings with coconut milk until the mixture becomes very thick, almost dry, then adding the Pla Thu fish. Only fish without scales can be used. People who live near fresh water will use local kinds like pla nuea awn, pla kot or pla khao and will sprinkle slivered kaffir lime leaves and chillies (phrik chee fa variety) over the fish before serving. This dish is an excellent favourite with Thais who live near rivers and lakes, but even they will agree that when made with pla thu it is just as good as when the local, freshwater types are used.</p>
<p>Then there is pla thu sot rat phrik sam rote. To make it, first the fresh pla thu are fried and then a three-flavoured sauce is made by frying shallots with pounded chillies, nam pla, sugar and tamarind juice, then pouring the sauce over the fish.</p>
<p>These are simply a few examples of the many dishes that can be made using fresh pla thu.</p>
<p>But pla thu are also used in &#8220;steamed&#8221; form in a spacious variety of recipes. As a matter of fact, the fish are boiled in salt water rather then steamed. In the past they were called pla thu kheng after the kheng, or small, round, woven bamboo containers in which they were displayed in the market.</p>
<p>The ones sold in the Samut Songkhram province had their necks broken by sellers so that they seemed to be looking down. This downward-looking shape became symbolical of pla thu from Samut Songkhram, and it originated when sellers were forced to break the necks of large fish so that they would fit into the kheng. Most pla thu were of a regular size, but big ones sometimes appeared and had to be forced to fit into the kheng bamboo container for sale. With the passage of time, when the broken necks became a kind of Samut Songkhram brand, even the smaller fish had the treatment.</p>
<p>Salted, dried pla thu are usually large fish of the breed called hang khaeng (&#8220;hard-tailed&#8221;) pla thu in Thai. They can be wrapped in very many layers of banana leaf and grilled. As they cook they give off an appetizing aroma, and taste wonderful when sprinkled with sliced shallots and bird chillies with a little lime juice squeezed over them. They can be eaten with all kinds of hot curries, or with rice soup.</p>
<p>The pla thu is an absolutely Thai fish, one that has a prime place in the culinary culture of each region of Thailand. If other specieses of fish were to be taken away, we could probably bear it. But if the pla thu all disappeared, we would be in a sad situation indeed.</p>
